Ingredients

3 cup Wheat Flour

1 tsp Salt

1 tsp Vegetable Oil

1 cup Water

Instructions

Step 1prepare the dough

1

Combine the roti flour (atta), salt, and vegetable oil in a large mixing bowl.

2

Gradually add water while mixing, adjusting the amount based on humidity and texture to achieve a smooth, soft dough that does not stick to the sides of the bowl.

3

Knead the dough until it is consistent and smooth.

4

If using later, store the dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator to prevent crusting. If using immediately, lightly oil a bowl, place the dough inside, and let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 2forming the roti

1

Break off a handful of dough and shape it into a smooth, round ball known as a betta by tucking the sides inward and pinching the bottom.

2

Press the dough ball down gently and dip both sides into dry flour.

3

Using your fingertips and thumbs, move the dough in a circular motion to flatten it, then transfer it to a rolling board.

4

Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out into a thin, flat circle, sprinkling extra flour as needed to prevent sticking.

Step 3cooking the roti

1

Heat a non-stick flat pan over medium heat. Test the heat by splashing a little water on the surface; it should sizzle.

2

Place the rolled-out dough onto the hot pan.

3

Once the roti is easy to lift, flip it over.

4

Use a rolled-up tea towel to gently press down on the roti, moving it around to ensure even cooking and to help it puff up with air.

5

Continue cooking until both sides have developed evenly distributed brown spots and no raw dough remains.

6

Remove the cooked roti and place it on a tea towel to absorb excess moisture.

7

Between rotis, wipe any excess flour from the pan.

8

Lightly butter the tops of the finished rotis if desired for flavor and softness, then store them in a Ziploc bag or airtight container to keep them fresh.
